The U-who

Formerly known as the U-Who, The U-869 was a Nazi Type IXC/40 U-boat that was mistakenly thought to have been sunk of the coast of Gibraltar. It was actually sunk by the Howard D Crow (DE-252) and Koiner (DE-331) on February 11th 1945 off the coast of New Jersey. It was originally discovered by fisherman who would snag their nets on the site. Bill Nagel was told about the site and mounted a diving expedition to what he thought could be "just a pile of rocks". It ended up being a U-boat. But this raised more questions then it answered. Almost all U-boats that were sunk during the war were accounted for and there wasn't any reported to be missing of the coast of the united states let alone as far north as New Jersey. It raised the question was it a secret submarine of Nazis escaping the war? did it hold forbidden scientific tests who were trying to avoid prosecution? This mystery engulfed many divers of that era. It was dubbed the U-Who and divers from all over America penetrated its depths in hopes of being the person who finds the artifact that solves the mystery of the U-Who. It would claim the lives 3 divers before it would give up its secrets. Along with Chris and Chrissy, Steve Feldman would succumb to the depths.
