What Happened on the last dive
Chris and Chrissy Rouse sat on the Deck of the dive boat Seeker in very rough condition, conditions too rough to dive in. Just like every other morning they were bickering. Chrissy didn't want to go, But Chris called him a pussy and in turn Chris didn't want to go but Chrissy called him less of a man. With both their manly hoods in question neither would back down. As they got ready for the dive Chrissy would fall twice on the deck in the turbulent seas. They slipped into the water and disappeared below the surface slightly before 10:00 am. Once on the deck of the U-Who 216 feet below the surface Chrissy entered the wreck in a hole just below the conning tower. Chris stayed outside the wreck as a safety diver incase Chrissy got into trouble. Once Chrissy entered he followed the hallway into the fore cabin and captains quarters of the wreck. Once in there the silt meant he was had 0 visibility and was feeling around the room. They assume he felt what he thought was the captains log and pulled on it. When he pulled on this book the cabinet fell on top of him and a raft pinned him to the floor. The nitrogen narcosis within his system caused him to hallucinate that a dragon was eating him and he screamed in terror. Chris hearing the screams of his son then entered the wreck and helped free him. But once Chrissy was free they had lost the line that lead out of the wreck. They methodically searched for the exit using a jump reel zig-zaging across the room until they finally found the opening. Once they exited the wreck they had spent 43 minutes on the bottom, more than double their expected 20 minute bottom time. In their panic they had forgot their stage tanks placed on the wreck and running out of air and time they ascended straight to the surface forgoing about 5 hours of decompression. On their way to the surface Chrissy tried to breathe off of his travel tank (on his chest) but the mouth piece ripped. In a final act of selflessness Chris gave his tank to his son sealing his fate. once they reached the surface Chris used the last of his strength to get his son in the boat. With a final breath Chris asked "Is Chrissy on the boat? Is he Safe?" he then passed away on the deck of the Seeker. Chrissy was rescued by helicopter and brought to a recompression chamber for treatment where he to would eventually succumb to his injuries.
